Minister of Works and Transport the Honourable Earl Deveaux is Deacon Lloyd's guest on Issue of the Day today.

He said that he agrees with the statement made by Sen. Hon Frederick McAlpine in the Senate a few weeks ago where he charged that the PLP government's issuing of construction contracts in the days leading up to the May 2nd general election amounted to economic evil for political gain.

Mr. Deveaux specifically spoke about the contract in Celina Point Acklins where a $3M contract was awarded to a PLP to build a new school. Mr. Deveaux said that the FNM government has cancelled that contract and devised a new plan to make improvements to the existing school which will include a new computer lab and library, for the much lower cost of $600K+. He said this will make the same amenities and opportunities available to the student in Celina Point, that are now available to other students throughout the Bahamas.

$3m versus $600K......das a big difference. Boy, lemme tell you, I glad I vote FNM.

Additionally, he said that they are not building that dam expensive straw market the PLP was gon spend $30m on. Hallelujah!!! Every sensible level headed Bahamian know we can't afford that. Give the straw vendors a comfortable, clean space to do business in. Leave the building of shopping malls to the private sector!

3 million to build a new school doesn't sound like much money. 600k to make repairs sounds like even less. There are homes in the Bahamas that costs more than 3 million and definitely more than 600k - you can't be skimping on education. They both sound ridiculous to me.

The ridiculous part is building a 3 million dolllar school to house less than 30 students.

LOL. Thanks. That is ridiculous.

Wait, when you say house - do you mean these students would live there??
