View Full Version : Police Still Baffled About Missing Canadian’s Whereabouts Rory 08-15-07, - 04:43 AM More than four months after Darrell Cloutier, 34, went missing, police say they are still looking for the Canadian national. http://www.jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=13739 FACTS ONLY 08-15-07, - 08:10 AM This case is dodgy at best. Why not let private investigators come in? One would think that all efforts would be exhausted to get to the bottom of the matter and give the family some peace. My God, its been since April that the man went missing. Most hot leads would be dead by now. This reminds me of when the FBI is called in to some hicktown and the local police try their best to frustrate them because of envy. Let the private investigators come in DAMMIT. We don't have all the answers and our police should be really, really busy. I recall two suspect had been arrested in this matter months ago. One of whom was a woman. If they had anything to do with that man being missing, I'm sure the woman would have been singing like a canary. I can be wrong, but I recall the two suspects had the man's car. Either this man does not want to be found or he has been dead since the time he went missing. I say let the investigators come in and free up our police from this case as it seems to me they have reached a dead-end. Dats my five cents!! madquoter 08-23-07, - 06:15 PM More than four months after Darrell Cloutier, 34, went missing, police say they are still looking for the Canadian national. http://www.jonesbahamas.com/?c=45&a=13739 Somehow, I'm not surprised about this kind of thing continueing to happen. Years ago, just days before I was to escort a company client down to Grand Bahama, a condo owned by a canadian couple near Port Lucaya was stormed into by 2 locals and the couple were murdered. I had to face the opportunity of having to explain to the CEO why my escort opportunity should continue on. What a pain in the posterior! all because of a senseless bahamian crime wave!! michali 08-23-07, - 06:54 PM And what about the death of the young Damianos man? Has anyone been charged? I thought it was pretty certain it was murder? There were several rumours going around and then it all went quiet. NetConnect 08-23-07, - 07:26 PM I think he does not want to be found, easy to do here michali 08-23-07, - 08:45 PM I think he does not want to be found, easy to do here I wondered about that myself. Jer 08-23-07, - 09:40 PM I wondered about that myself. Me too; wonder what his past is like? Who knows, but I say let the PIs in. Joe Baboon 08-23-07, - 10:06 PM I think he does not want to be found, easy to do here Come on guys. His friends and family are really hurting. Comments like this don't help anyone. gullyrock 08-23-07, - 10:11 PM It seems that people sometimes disappear around these parts. About 12 years ago a BEC employee disappeared in Abaco. I'm thinking his car was found in the bushes, but not a trace of him. And he was a BIG man; wouldn't be easy to hide him. There was an inquest, but as far as I know nothing conclusive! That must be awful for a family. There can be no closure and when does the family give up hope? FACTS ONLY 08-24-07, - 06:21 AM Come on guys. His friends and family are really hurting. Comments like this don't help anyone. This is probadly what the family is hopeing. If he does not want to be found, in time he may make contact. If he has been killed, they would much prefer a body. After all this time has passed and the police are at a dead end, surely the family has considered this. FACTS ONLY 08-24-07, - 06:30 AM By Paige Ferguson Police said Monday they were searching for Don Diego Cartwright, a 33-year-old Bacardi Road man, wanted in connection with the kidnapping of a 34-year-old Canadian national. Meanwhile, family and friends of Darrell Cloutier were offering a $10,000 reward to anyone who has information on his disappearance. Police said Cartwright is of medium built, dark brown complexion and five feet, seven inches tall and was considered armed and dangerous. Mr. Cloutier is a resident of Sandyport, according to police. Police said they received a missing person’s report last Wednesday sometime around 5:30pm. Police said Mr. Cloutier is a Caucasian, who is five feet nine inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds with dark brown hair and a receding hairline. Chief Superintendent Hulan Hanna said Mr. Cloutier came to the Bahamas in 2004 on a work permit as an administrative officer with PCL Construction Company, Paradise Island. Mr. Hanna said that someone at the company called police after not seeing him at work for an unusual amount of time. "He was known to be a man who was on time and always showed up to work when he’s supposed to and that is why they filed a report," he said. He said a 36-year-old Bahamian female who also lives in western New Providence was in custody and was assisting with the investigation. "We are satisfied that she can assist us in our investigation," Mr. Hanna said. He said because of the nature of the investigation, he was not able to go into detail regarding the relationship between the Bahamian woman and Mr. Cloutier. He said only that he does know that the two are acquainted. Police were also investigating the relationship between Mr. Cloutier and Cartwright. Mr. Hanna said it was not clear what the relationship was, but he said police have not ruled out any options. "At this point, all options are open. We have not come to any definitive conclusions of what may have happened to this man," he said. "Hence the need for members of the public to give us any bits and pieces of information they have." Mr. Hanna said there is always the possibility that the wanted man may have fled the country. He said notices have been sent to various docks and airports around the country to look out for Cartwright. According to the police, Mr. Cloutier was last seen between April 10 and April 11 at Sunrise Beach Villas on the western side of New Providence. He was last seen wearing black khaki pants, a beige golf shirt and black dress shoes, according to police. "We have done a thorough investigation and we continue to go over the same areas and we have expended all resources in our physical searches so as to determine where the gentleman may be," Mr. Hanna said. He said that the police take every missing person’s report very seriously, but when a foreign national is involved, more care has to be taken not only for the safety of the missing person, but the safety of the Bahamian economy. "We treat all missing person’s reports with the same diligence, but of course you can appreciate when foreign nationals are involved, there is the potential for outside media to converge on this jurisdiction," he said. "It causes the police to be very, very diligent in the way we conduct our public affairs because we understand that the Bahamas’ economy is largely tourist based, and so we try to ensure that everything we do won’t bring harm to the Bahamas." Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact FACTS ONLY 08-24-07, - 06:34 AM By Vanessa C. Rolle The police are networking with the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and the local Ministry of Tourism to share information regarding the investigation into the disappearance of a 34-year-old Canadian man, police have confirmed. Assistant Superintendent Walter Evans told The Bahama Journal on Thursday that investigations into the whereabouts of Darrell Cloutier, who went missing around April 10, were still ongoing. Mr. Cloutier was reported missing by his employers at PCL Construction Ltd. on Paradise Island on April 11 when he failed to show up for work. Mr. Cloutier is an administrative officer at the company where he has been employed since 2004, and is a resident of Olde Towne Sandyport. "We are in constant contact with representatives from Foreign Affairs in Canada and they are aware, and there is a link with the Ministry of Tourism. So they are updated, and this is not just a singular effort in terms of information, or with regard to information," ASP Evans said. "We have a person who is missing now and we are doing everything that we can at this stage to find the individual. He is still missing. I can confirm that and the police investigation continues." He would not comment on whether police were still investigating to determine whether Don Diego Cartwright, 32, who had been picked up by police for questioning, was still a person of interest in the case. ASP Evans also would not comment on whether police planned to bring any additional charges against Patrice Knowles, the 36-year-old woman who was charged recently with using Mr. Cloutier’s credit card. Knowles pleaded not guilty to seven counts of fraud. She is on remand at Her Majesty’s Prison. "All I can say is that we have been making some inroads in regard to our investigation. We don’t want to go further than where we are on our comments on that," ASP Evans said. "The police investigation continues in this matter. The police have not ceased any operation on that and there has been a continued effort in regard to the search for the missing Canadian. We will continue to search until we get positive results." Friends of Mr. Cloutier have raised a $10,000 reward for information on his whereabouts. The police are asking persons who may have any information regarding this case to contact them at 502-9991 or Crimestoppers at 328-TIPS. The police were reportedly following leads and doing physical searches in the area of Delaporte where the missing man was last known to have been seen. Mr. Cloutier is a Caucasian, five feet nine inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing black pants and a tan coloured golf shirt, police said. She must either be a hard nut to crack, or, she knows nothing. Maybe the credit cards were NOT stolen.........hmmmmmmmmm. |
