View Full Version : Bahamas wont do business with Mentally Disturbed Dictator
Bahamas Elects Not To Sign PetroCaribe Deal
Consistent with the Ingraham Administration’s assertion that the Venezuela-backed PetroCaribe initiative is not a priority for the country, The Bahamas is one of six countries that elected not to sign onto the new energy agreement last weekend.

12play 08-17-07, - 01:32 PM Why do people call Chavez a dictator? What is that anyway? Does he rule by decree or something? Can he make laws? Can he enforce laws, act as judge and jury? Please explain.

Dictator, no. At least not officially.
Bipolar/ a nut- most probably.
He does have a nasty habit of stopping things he does not like (shutting TV stations/newspapers, etc)
In the short term PetroCaribe would have provided relief, but long term it may have put us in deeper debt if Chavez ever called in the "loan" or demanded all the money for the oil.
Personally I don't HATE Chavez. I like that he stands up for himself and his region. I do think he lacks tact and needs to learn to deal with other leaders without being so insulting.
You can tell folks to KMA without actually saying the words.

Another thing, we could ease our own oil prices if we let up a bit on the tax we charge on gasoline.

How many TV stations/newspapers were shut by Chavez? Does he have power to enforce such closure? Did any of those news outlets violate any law by calling for his ouster by force, or by supporting and giving comfort to persons suspected of being involved in the most recent coup attempt? If Wendall Jones called for the ouster of the present government by force or through civil disobedience that the government should smile and bend over, or crush Wendal Jones?

Yes to all questions.
He maybe a nut. He may be a dictator - I don't really know. But if the deal was good I am sure that could be overlooked! A good deal is a good deal. I guess our government, and the few others, did not think so. :)

Yinna 'ein gonna convince Rory.
He likes George Bush and does watch Fox (laugh snicker) News.
He is a cool dude though.
I didn't like Petro-Caribe from a purely economic standpoint. We would have gotten screwed when Chavez was forced to call in the loan for the fuel.

Lol.....
There couldn't be or there wasn't any clause that prevented getting screwed by such a measure tho?

Not sure, but the Bahamas Government could ease the gas price if it lowered the gas tariffs (if only a few cents).
They probably won't though because we are scraping for cash as is.

Personally, no. But there are plenty out there who would! Particularly if they are try to impress the voters. :)

Bush is the devil to me LOL, Chavez is just plain evil.
justaguy 08-17-07, - 06:04 PM Not sure where those of you who doubt Chevez's disturbed nature have been, but the news has recently been full of the fact that he is in the process of re-writing the *constitution* of Venezuela to allow him to remain the president for as long as *he* wants (instead of limiting rule to 2 terms).
Democracy will then no longer be a word in Venezuela.
If that happens, then, yes, he becomes a dictator. Period.
So. If the Bahamas had signed the Petro Caribe deal, the US would no longer provide us oil/gas (they aren't keen on him, or dictators in general... though they actually have one running their nation!) - it would all have to come from this one source.
Say that, one year into the deal, Chevez decides to quadruple the prices. What do we do then. The US laughs at our requests for help. We're screwed, and Chevez now controls the entire Caribbean region, charging what he likes, or taking what he likes in barters.
