View Full Version : upholding decent democracy standards for the bahamas.
relentless 08-18-07, - 08:22 PM Election court is a good sign of a healthy democracy system, but there is a need for a good opposition to play there role that the system entitles them to follow through. The now so called opposition are not strategically utilizing the democratic sytem correctly, all the ranting and false accusations towards a two month old new goverment is uncalled for. Should'nt they wait and see what the fnm produces within the first year atleast? Its time for the opposition to put away their misleading atics and get on with the job that the people put them there for.

They've been fighting the election results from the night of the election .. they just dont want to let go of that power .. also perhaps they brother uncles sisters boyfriend had one of them contracts and though could not do the job properly would have still been getting paid big $$ if they was still in power ...

Sadly you are right...
Unfortunately, the Bahamas isn't use to there being a constructive opposition...the last opposition we had failed miserably....

Da BIPM! :)I wah join dat party!
Alien 08-19-07, - 07:32 AM Look, the opposition is doing it's job. They are SUPPOSED to fight against the FNM. I mean, if any thought of bi-partisanship was in order, it was thrown out of the window when the PM and the FNM, foolishly made attempts to STOP all of what the previous government had in place; as little as it was. Which leaves me to question the BLATANTLY OBVIOUS ISSUE of the FNM being upset with their own works, because, as they have said, the PLP did very little or next to nothing, so, the FNM must be upset with the Bahamas they created, as by their admission, they were the last government to do something. Yet, the Bahamian people voted them in.
In any event, there are enough people on both sides to cover the issues more effectively. The senate is in full bloom, the parliament is active and no legislation will pass, unless the Bahamian people en-masse has a good idea of what we are doing. The FNM can do no such thing as pass laws willy nilly, and, the PLP's are not that dumb, or, few in numbers to let anything slip by.
This is why I think, in order to solidify his power, Hubert Ingraham will call an early election, to go with the one he, the illegal immigrant voters and the FNM money bags, bought and stole from the Bahamian people.
So, Rory is right when he said "power" indeed. It is power.
relentless 08-19-07, - 04:50 PM Fair enough, but as it stands please don't look forward to an early election because it will be what the plp's want, not the majority of the people want!
Hubert will never call an election based on those issues, the fnm are strong and are ready to fight to get what they think is rite for the people. Im not saying that we dont have an opposition but they aint acting like one. What they (PLP) are doing is manipulating minds. They know they lost, but they don't want you to believe that. The fnm has its own agenda the people voted them in because of that, we want what they have to offer in anticipation. It was the same when the plp won back then. We anticipate a productive government and now i want to see these plp be productive and start playing their roles accordingly. In 1992 when the fnm won the plp stated that the fnm were an interim government because they couldnt believe what happened, they never thought is could happen to them and the same attitude and deceit is displayed from them today. This selfish mentality will linger with that party.
bahamianAbroad 08-19-07, - 04:58 PM one can argue till you are blue in the face which of the party is better than the other..but you seem to forget:
The People of the Bahamas are the government, for better or for worse.
Its up to us to make our demands to those voted into the House and to support and assist where ever we can (fight crime, support the elderly, sick and children with proper heath plans and support, education etc.) and above all show the World that the Bahamas is a country where democracy and equal rights for all prevail.
Stop the 3rd World attitude of shooting and setting fire to Party Offices, we are better than that!!!
