Retailers, especially those operating out of their homes and on the side of the road were warned over the weekend to be extra vigilant when accepting $100 bills, as a "high-end scam" involving the use of such bills had began to unfold, causing them to unknowingly collect up to $10,000 in counterfeit bills.

After receiving two of the fraudulent notes himself in exchange for one of his appliances, a man who spoke to The Guardian on the condition of anonymity, went public with his story on Sunday, in an effort to warn potential victims.
