Hi all this will be my first thread on bahamas issues and its concerning medical care in the bahamas i have been out of the bahamas for about 3 years already and i dont know what may have changed in the health care sector from i left. I travelled to many poor south asian countries and im amazed at their health care system its efficent and in most cases very affordable. I dont know if PMH has changed the way it does buisness by having patients wait for hours to see a doctor or has they upgraded the morgue from the terrible state it was in. In my opinion i think a new hospital should be built and funded partly by the government, the government should also consider a VAT to fund certain projects in our country and just dont rely to heavily on custom duties for revenue i know the cost of living in the bahams is very high but if we have a proper taxation in place i think we can bring costs down i know most people can say get a good insurance etc but some insurances dont pay 100 percent coverage and many times in severe medical cases most bahamians are still stucked with a large bill then there is the issue with nurse and doctor shortages and pay but i think we can have attractive pay for our nurses and doctors if we have certain measures in place and we are serious for the health of our people. I know we are responsible for taking care of our bodies but accidents do happen. I also wonder if GOD forbid a terriost attack happen on our shores is the hospitals equipped to handle such trauma i see a lot people be ranting and raving about politics but those people who we are paying to do our work is not doing it but i think the only way things will change if we get together as one people and demand the best for our country.
