I wonder if this is legal? Can Americans charter out of the states come here and fish without a business license? Also if you check out the video the guy is breaking our laws as to catch limits, he has more than 6 pelagic fish in his hold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x08FDoH53Uk And they wonder why we Bahamians are getting fed up with them.

They have to follow the catch laws.

They look like Mahi Mahi in the video..I do not think that there are limits on those fish. In any event, if Americans violate our fishing laws they can actually be dealt with by the Americans themselves. I believe that there is a very serious federal law that may apply, and someone was prosecuted for it at least once in relation to us in Florida. The federal laws are no joke.Just pass any evidence along to Uncle Sam and let him deal with them. Larry Cartwright them better keep the rules that Leslie Miller left in place or else! If anything they should be strengthened further.

Dolphin are pelagic fish, therefore the guy is allowed 6. The law is six pelagic fish per BOAT. Pelagic fish are tuna, wahoo, dolphin, kingfish and the like. So the guy was breaking our laws, not to mention he had PAYING guests onboard. What are the laws concerning this? Can a bahamian charter boat charter out of the Bahamas and fish American waters? What about business license and all that stuff. What do we get out of an American Charterboat coming across for the day, catching our fish, and going home that night?

Report him Wideye.

Maybe we should turn this footage in to the Ministry to press a court case or get one of the fancy lawyers who like their name in the papers to file a lawsuit!

This mess has to stop.

Is that you posting under the name "Beer Bones" telling them they are breaking the laws??

Send it to the news desk at all the dailys. They do monitor this site cuz they have referred to it in the past. Send it to Ms. Duncombe who is the environmentalist so she can bring huge notice to it by the media. I have noticed that we are affecting change not through elected officials as much as we are through media pressure.

There are US boats based in the Abacos and Other out islands doing the same thing. It is not illegal because the governmet does not pay attention. American captains can get Bahamian captains licence for thirty dollars if they want but most dont even bother. Work permits are not required even if they and the sailboat charter guys live here full time. Go figure, a Bahamian citizen cannot get a US captains license. they are reserved for Americans only.

^^ And we wonder why most American's consider us a bunch of uneducated, corruptible idiots far inferior to them............ we don't even take the time to report illegalities or at least force the hands of the authorities to enact our laws cause we use most of the info as mere social conversation. I still say send it to a private advocacy group just for the mere fact that they are very antagonistic and proactive.

If you report to relevant authorities their hands are tied because of different dept. rules. That is why no work permit is required for these operators. Bahamians cannot compete in boating and fishing in the Bahamas because the foreign boats are tax free duty free . They can arrive with 100 cases of $10. beer and Half price fuel. Maybe someone can get the government interested. I DOUBT IT!!!

Are you serious? Unbelievable. I believe that those Bahamian Charter Boats must be duty free though. Well, we have to take matters into our own hands. Sink those boats that are here competing with Bahamian boats and that will send a clear message that we are not going to take it anymore. If we tried that it in American waters we would end up in jail and then on the stop list.

I always wondered about these dive boats that you see here and there. It is a fact that most of these boats come in here fully loaded, freezers overflowing. They like to say that they benefit the Bahamian economy but I doupt that they do. We may get departure tax out of their guests if they arrive by air but that is about it. Many of the Mega Yachts in Atlantis rent themselves out for many thousands of dollars a day, if they are doing so in Bahamian Waters, the BAHAMAS should get a cut. These are the same set that will kill whatever they want, scuba dive for fish, and in general take advantage of The Bahamas. I say we get a cut or they get OUT! We are being taken advantage of and the government better try figure out something before it comes to a boiling point. I know for a fact that many come here to load up on fish that they SELL in the states. Government better check stock!

A 5% cut off what they charge would be some good change for the Treasury.

But somebody will holla, "Oh no Sunny ! Das a tax and we don't want no tax!"

*Suck teeth*
