Hm, hurricanes and armed robbery? Sounds like the Bahamas to me...

Speaking as an Abaconian veteran of Floyd, the first link got it about right. Only he didn't mention that the category hurricane it is makes a BIG difference. You can get away without putting up shutters for a category 1 storm, in my experience. Category 5, God help us all.

Also, I would like to add: do NOT, under any circumstances, leave your car parked within a mile of the sea during a hurricane. Park it in the bush and walk back home if you have to. Nothing like a powder-coating of sea-salt over the entire engine block to help the vehicle rust solid within about 6 months. Also, do not buy a used car right after a hurricane - there were plenty of "hurricane lemons" sold in Abaco during the first half of 2000!
