View Full Version : Could Someone "Purchase" the Bahamas?

I know no person could come in and "Purchase" a country, but someimes I wonder what would happen if one honest, forward thinking group came in and "purchased" the Bahamas

Say they bought up enough of those "gub'ment bonds" to call in the marker and take over every public company and massive chunks of crown land.

I know it can't happen, but you have to wonder if we would do better with folks intent on getting things done.

Interesting concept tho. We may suck our teet at the thought but the concept of "special interest" is very real and despite the fact that we may feel that we are some sort of top dog in our region .... the fact remains that are economy is not that large. Then if you think that the richest human is worth 50 - 60 billion... if he/ her or they wanted leverage in a region what would stop them from silently commandeering the markets that run the Bahamas through buyouts and underhanded dealings....... essentially doesn't that equate to "purchasing" the Bahamas?

Sunny,

A Bahamian who lives somewhere in the US was on one of the local radio stations lastnight or night before saying the same things we say over and over on this site.

He said something to the effect that Gov is not really interested in expanding the economy by enabling bahamians to make serious money.

For my part, I think we have to many people in the House who have never lived and work abroad and really been a part of a different system or one the actually works a little bit. If we did, we would have many more ideas being put forward.

Also, just because you went to school somewhere other than the Bahamas doesn't qualify you as being in the system.

Then when they get in the house they think they know erryting and have all the answears, but this can't get nothing done properly...

Lawdy lawdy...:dunce: :dunce: :dunce:

I am really beginning to feel that they like things the way they are because they can benefit and make millions without expanding our potential.

No individual can come in and literally buy a nation, but a group/nation can come in and buy in an abstract way. China has quietly come along and bought the U.S.A. debt from other nations, such as Japan, and thereby gained a big economic influence upon America: if America takes a tough stand against the many human right abuses made by China, a retaliation could be China insisting on immediate payments of the American debt which would devestate the american economy. Ergo, america doesn't tick off China but does go after the small fish in the pond such as Iran.
