View Full Version : Albany? Khatty 08-23-07, - 10:40 PM I'm trying to follow this Albany community thing and i'm a little confused. Why does it seem to me that regardless of what people's opinions are, this project is going to go ahead! FoXxY 08-23-07, - 10:57 PM I am watching cable 12 news and the albany project was the headliner..those people are pleading not to have that road diverted and its obviously falling on deaf ears. That guy is biggity yes biggity..he didn't directly say it but his attitude is like you people gatta be joking ..my contract is signed..the road is going to be diverted shut the hell up..its going to be done come hell or high water! Im just becoming familiar with this project. I'm going to read more up on this. I don't live in that area but the concern seems to be the road being diverted and beach access. islandgyal 08-23-07, - 11:23 PM am wondering where this anger for road diversion was when the cable beach peanut kings at bahamar decided to ultimately (meaning, long-term) knock down historic cecil wallace whitfield centre to make room for new road for the new "development"? Rory 08-23-07, - 11:41 PM i mussee missed it hey, they got some meeting on but seems like some taxi or tourism thing .. ? chancellor 08-24-07, - 12:25 AM I mean really the day the project was introduced to the Bahamian people the deal was already signed. I believe they had a live signing of the agreement right in front of our faces, and people had no idea of the implications. LOL though, the whole thing about a new subdivision and jobs and the everything else was touted except the road diversion....talk about getting kicked in the arse and loving it. But what can you do? Unlike BahaMar, this was a deal that was SIGNED and DELIVERED. To suggest go back into negatioations would mean Albany would walk away, and that this country cannot commit to any deal we make. 12play 09-05-07, - 01:37 PM The Nassau Guardian has an Editorial about land being acquired by the government in order to transfer it to another party as being a bad thing. I think it can be a good thing if the proposed private development increases tax revenues and benefits the community, generally through jobs and improved infrastructure. There was a case of imminent domain in America where the supreme court of the US upheld the right of local authorities to acquire land from one to give to another private entity. There is a lot of vacant land here in Exuma that may benefit from such reasoning, ie, generation land. We need more inventory here....running out of land to sell....and to buy:) |
