So this is one of the rare contracts that the PLP AND FNM agree on :D
ching357 08-27-07, - 08:59 AM :dgi: Why do they feel this project would be like or bring economic growth as Atlantis?
Atlantis is in a catagory by it's self the whole set is different, now yes this project is going to bring in some lawn workers job, janitorial opening basically low end work for one or two bahamians. The construction part of it is going to pay the bahamian work force what is due because the crooked bahamians fronting will get it all and costruction doesn't last long and also they are going to be allowed to bring in work force as well for the money they cliam to be spending they would be able to call the shorts, that's bussiness.
This whole development is just another lyford cay nothing else only small differance is that they are going to have everything behind there wall from food store down to other shops and clinic away from the locals.
We don't need another project of that size in nassau and if they want to go let them we really need to start pushing more bahamians into owner ship of big bussiness and try and take back some of the land in nassau for bahamians use and ownership.
In our own land we are going back into legal slavery because now every land around us is own by others and are out of reach from us,but you would have bahamians who would say go get a piece of one of the other island if you want some sought of ownership.
My bottom line oppion is that i don't think we need such a developement.

This is the Albany project which we debated several days prior
bahmaboy 08-27-07, - 07:56 PM if they feel as though this project would bring economic growth on the scale of atlantis, then why not put it on grand bahama.
grand bahama needs an "alantis". if albany house and that cable beach proposal becomes atlantis's that would be three atlantis scale machines on tiny nassau.
attracting thousands more people. my sould they really tryin to sink the place.
Tafadhali 08-27-07, - 08:00 PM im so sick of hearing about all these big numbers that amount to nothing for the little people.

I don't agree with it. The government infrastructure will never be able to keep up. Why don't we try to fix the traffic congestion in Nassau first, the water shortage, poor roads, poor utilities...man everytime I think of this I get disgusted...lemme stop now!

i have never been to freeport but based on my discussions with every one thats been there they say that cities infurstracture exceeds nassau's infurstructure.
the gov can keep up with what ever they want to keep up with. just like i said in the thread about the dogs cuasiing the death of a man. all those corn years the dogs have been a problem and now that it cuased a death the gov run to legislate.
just like investments every city reaches a point of maturity. nassau is matured, focus on putting projectls like albany on grand bahamas.
the focus for nassau right now should not be sticking up a project where ever you could squeeze. it should be focused on fixing the hospital, roads, provding reliable power etc.
adding this projects are detrimental to nassau. if albany and bahamar gets offf the ground nassau could kiss itself goodbye.

We'll have to see what happens...

exactly ... WHAT is there to think twice about? why not build this bay in cat island instead?

Probably because the developers already own thousands of acres of property and over a thousand feet of beach front. What do you suggest they do, sell it off and buy someplace else and start over. The land is already cleared.

good point on the land ownership. an even better point is that no crown land died to complete this transaction, either :). but when i think of atlantis, i think of insanely inappropriate density.
perhaps it's an unfair comparison to have made, given that this sort of development is proposed to take effect over thousands of acres, vs. paradise island's teensy footprint. what suggestions are being made with regard to their electrical and water infrastructure? are they proposing to take themselves off of the main grid?

There are so many other places that this can be. And they talk about South Ocean next door. Who will pay for this new road? Will there be a 300 foot right-of-way for roadway widening 20, 50 years down the road? Nassau needs some serious infrastructural planning so the so many problems that exist can be fixed. We don't need to be planning another mega resort on New Providence! Look at the traffic coming over that PI bridge from 4-6 pm. Lets sort that out first...the traffic coming from eastern road, Blue Hill road, east street...when will we ever learn that if we fail to plan we plan to fail!
Sunnyjohn 08-27-07, - 09:05 PM Freeport does have the infrastructure to handle such a project.
Electricity, roads, water- all ready to go. Freeport was well planned out and gridded with roads/water/lines/etc to handle 250,000 people.
Frankly, when it comes to infrastructure, Freeport it probably more like a mini- West Palm and in 100 times better shape than Nassau.
Thing is, I am not sure even Freeport wants it.
Ginn did nothing but tear up West End. Perhaps if they are going to put it in Freeport city proper and stop tearing up the outlying settlements.
... but yinna Nassau people like having tingd pack up der so ENJOY!
*suck teeth @ Albany*
