Who owns Landco, and how come all of a sudden, they popped up and are owning Bozine town area?

No one know's who these people are...who represents them, what are their interests and what do they want with that land?

This was never truly solved, and, what does Sidney Collie, a land lawyer, have in store for the residents of Bozine Town?

We saw how Foulkes and Campbell were strategically placed to win their seats; Foulkes the Labour Minister and Campbell, the Urban Renewal coodinator.

So, what does a conviniently placed land-lawyer in Colle, doing for his constituents?

First thing first is fining the principal owners of landco, something which no one has been able to do YET!

Residents Stand Firm Against Bahamas Development Company
The residents say they have no intention of repurchasing land that has been in their families for decades and to which they maintain they have legal claim.

The Harrold Road Land Development Company (LANDCO) is a non-existing entity and as such has no legal claim to land in that area, according to the steering committee formed by the residents after they received letters saying that the company owns the land their homes are on.

Residents of Bozine Town, Knowles Drive and Harrold Road met again at the Lakeview Church of God of Prophecy yesterday to discuss their course of action less than a week after they received a letter from the law firm of Lockhart, Munroe and Co. The firm said that it represented LANDCO.

Residents were given 14 days to respond to LANDCO's invitation to purchase the land.

Who Is Really Behind LANDCO?

by admin on Wed Jun 28, 2006 2:30 pm

The PUNCH reports that Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie is set to cut a deal with LANDCO, which will allow the 4,000 residents of Bozine Town to remain on their land.

LANDCO is the company that, I have been told, is supposedly controlled by foreigners and a few Bahamian gangsters, who used the Quieting of Titles Act to lay claim to land that is already titled to others.

An allegedly corrupt Supreme Court judge sided with the mysterious company, threatening eviction on hundreds of families who have paid for, and lived on, the disputed land for as long as 50 years.

The situation in Bozine Town illustrates the need for legitimate land reform legislation. It should also spur a call for the prosecution of lawyers and real estate agents who are responsible for re-selling land that was previously titled to a legitimate buyer in a previous transaction.

It also illustrates how criminally-minded Bahamians have abused the "quieting" of titles to enrich themselves at the expense of others. The laws need to change and retribution should be paid by the guilty.

Unfortunately, there are too many powerfully corrupt people involved in these kinds of deals and an investigation would open up a can of worms. It would require an explanation from certain prominent politicians, lawyers and real estate agents as to how acres of "generation land" in New Providence were re-titled and sold, when, by law, they should not have been.

From what I am reading, this is another mess the former Goverment got the residents into and fell down on the job of resolving the issue.

Now it is up to the new Goverment to assist if they can.

This thing was a mess from the word go. But, this is not up to government from that perspective, it is up to the courts and the documents. Sindey Collie just needs to be there to champion his constituents, if need be. But, as you have mentioned, more may need to be done in regards to on the spot legislation.

Time will tell indeed!

When that situation in Bozine town was heating up, I clearly recall the Hon Shane Gibson on the news saying that he was going to make sure the govt change the law to do away with the quieting of land, because he firmly believes that if you own a piece of land it should be yours for life (unless you decide to sell it!).

Yeah, he was strongly against people squatting on land that is NOT theirs and owning it after a number of years.. I was so GLAD when he made that announcement, but I have heard no more about it.. I mentioned it on this forum before.

Dont have a clue, but they could well be as was stated in post#3

This squatting on land is a real mess and has been legal for a very long time -- the first time I heard about it was sometime in the 1950s

So, if no one is behind the group, then the people should win because no one wants to own up to the group.

Actually, you can go down to the Registry office and for $10 have them look it up and bring you the Company file. Most times in this type of case, as I have worked for lawyers before, the file may have become myseriously missing. If that be the case, you get your $10 back.

All the government has to do really is allow there to be an appeals process; A judge is gawd in his court, but if other judges can scrutinize his decision at the level of the Court of Appeal or even the Privy Council, the foolishness would stop. Desmond Bannister please do something about that quieting law!

I think we can see by now that the courts are dodgy. I would go as far to say that they need a shake-up in the judiciary. New judges and a change of personell. Top down. Bring in more international judges, but, change these old farts on the bench. They are working behind the 8-ball, but overworked, which still means that they need to be changed.

I don't know how difficult that would be, but, removing them would be a good step.
