You all have heard me B&*(^(*#& time and time again about the state of the bridge connecting Great & Little Exuma... well the other day I took officials from the Ministry of Works and the Local Newspaper/Radio Station and here are a few of the pictures that I personally took

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/ex05/IMG_4327.jpg

as you can see.. the steel is now exposed on this support leg.. and not just this one but on several of them.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b237/ex05/IMG_4326.jpg

that is the support joining the bridge section to pylons... there are several of these beams that have completely seperated from the sections... the only thing that is keeping the bridge from collapsing into the channel is the integrity of the circa 1968 concrete

we have no choice but to drive across... otherwise we will have to revert back 39 years to the days when the connection between The Ferry on Little Exuma and Hartswell on the Great Exuma side was made by a hand drawn ferry barge.

until this is fixed they need to stop any and all non-essential machinery from going across...

these people take cement trucks... D8 Tractors, big containers... everything across this bridge..

A few months ago I was fishing on the bridge when a big cement truck went across.. next thing I know this section of concrete measuring probably 2 1/2 feet broke off from one of the legs.

and these pictures only show the damage above water... all of the legs now are only sitting on steel and a small core of concrete below the low-tide mark.

with all honesty ma boy.. i could give a d*mn about tourists... this is our lifeline on Little Exuma... but as usual we know the Government doesnt care for us on Little Exuma...

TOURISTS????!?!?!?! What about if there are 3-4 cars going across along with 10 people fishing and it collapses?

What about if collapses with either the high school bus or primary school bus??

Man this is so scary.

What did those MOW bigwigs say? When is this going to be fixed? Next week?

fixing it will only be a bandaid.. the bridge was in fact condemned in 2004 by bradley roberts but no action was ever taken. The head engineer who I took out with me stated that the most likely action will be to place a weight restriction on the bridge and build a new one next to it

They will probably pay lip service until an accident happens. How high above water is this bridge?

that was the impression I got... but it would still take 6mnths - a year to construct a new one

you see it is a very wide channel with a strong current flowing through, so it will take quite a bit of engineering to construct a bridge that will withstand it

They should boycot the bridge until it is fixed. Go back to using a ferry or something....maybe that would send a message.

is a ferry ready to take cars across?
is the community voicing its concern to tony moss, or the commissiioner on the island?
2004 was a long time ago...why has nothing happened?
I dont think the money is there to build the bridge...

Are these picks going to be in the Guardian or Tribune?

How about an e-mail campaign?

Maybe Lincoln Bain can go down to EXUMA and do a show on that bridge.

It seems like shaming people is the only way to get public works done in the Bahamas.

you think we want to go back to using a ferry :gi: you cant be focused.. if we do that now before the bridge is fixed then they JUST wont do anything
