No
If the general elections were held today, would you vote for the FNM ??
The FNM has not demonstrated that it is ready to assume the role of government. There are still some dark clouds over the leadership hierarchy of the FNM. They still have to clear up and explain those lapses of integrity.
The FNM has to develop a plan that focuses on the majority of the Bahamian people. This has not been done.
Advancing today’s minds using tomorrow’s technology.
I would vote for the FNM. I am a FNM supporter. Provided that they organize themselves and form a great plan for the economic future of Eleuthera. I am very concerned about Eleuthera because both governments have been ineffective in developing this island economy and Eleutherians are at an end. The economy is terrible. People are starving. There is no employment and the future seems bleak. The announcement of a 75million dollar at Windermere island is speculative since Mrs. Nicky Kelly's column in the Punch says that the land owner is in a court dispute with the previous owner. We don't know what the outcome of that case will be.
Eleuthera needs immediate economic investment. We can't wait. We are at least ten years behind the remainder of the central/northern Bahamas in development when we used to be the second place leader in the Bahamas. We lost that because of the lack of leadership in the PLP party of the time.
I think a change in leadership to the FNM would be warranted at this time simply in the way of putting the two political parties on guard and forcing them to reorganize and create a better political/economic plan for the people of the entire Bahama Islands.
The Economie isolationism of Nassau city is a major challenge taking the potential economic possibilities out of focus for the entire Bahamas as a unified country. The plight of the out islands is that they will eventually become second class societies should the countries present economic trend remain in place for a longer time. Out Islanders are too poor and without the opportunities of Nassauvians.
Why both Political parties cannot see the joint development of the entire country as a priority shows great short sightedness and remarkable short vision by both parties.
When the Free National Movement decides to take the Bahamian People seriously then the Bahamian People will take them seriously.
On May 2nd, 2002, the Bahamian Masses overwhelmingly rejected the leadership of Tommy Turnquest. They did not consider him qualified to capably lead this country and rightly so. Yet, when the Free National Movement had their most recent convention they decided to place this political reject at the helm of their party. This Seatless Wonder remained shameless and refused to step down and allow someone more qualified and deserving of the position to lead the party.
It is quite obvious that the Free National Movement failed to learn from the mistakes of the Progressive Liberal Party under the leadership of Sir Lynden Pindling. When the voting public rejected this political giant in March 1997, shortly, thereafter the PLP made some changes in their leadership. While this caused caous in the ranks of this association it had to be done and done quickly so that the party could at least appear to be a viable option, for the 2002 General Elections, which it did.
If the FNM intends to have any effect in the Bahamian Political Society the Seatless Wonder Boy has to go and NOW. They can remain "United and Ignited" and, at the same time, disagree about their leadership until they and the majority of the Bahamian Masses are in agreement as to who should lead the party and, in the future, this country. Irreparable damage will be done to the party's chances of winning the next general election if they wait until it's too late to deal with their leadership fiasco.
Yes, the PLP Government is making some major screw-ups but the Free National Movement, at this time, does not present the Bahamian Voters with a viable alternative for government.
The FNM needs to use the new persons that they have in the Party to bring about a new look and attitude. It is no secret that I have and do support such persons as Senator's Bannister and McCartney, along with Darren Cash and some other FNM's who don't play a real role in the Party structure. As far as Mr. Turnquest is concerned, while I have expressed in the not to long ago past that he is not capable, it has never been my position to try and influence unduly who the public or a Party should have as it's leader--I focus more of my energy on who should be gone as leader! And that is because I know that the Bahamian people always find a way to do something uniquely stupid every five years regarding leadership (i.e. 1992, 1997 and 2002). Therefore, I believe that until Mr. Turnquest and the FNM decisively and publicly denounce Mr. Ingraham and label him persona non grata from the decision making of the FNM, then they will never be taken seriously. And Mr. Turnquest has to present himself in a different manner and as opposed to everything that his ilk has stood for, because believe it or not, more people rejected him because of those behind him, then because of him as a person.
I was unaware that the FNM was the alternative option for governing the Bahamas. I am an FNM supporter. Not only have they been silent on many important economic and social issues in the Bahamas since their election defeat of May 2002 they have virtual allowed the PLP a free reign providing no sustainable , visible opposition to this government. Every now and again you hear some chirpings from the FNM when it seems the public's frustration is at a boiling point. Their leader Tommy Turnquest is absolutely not the right person as far as I and a lot of others are concerned for his present post and any subsequent position of power if they were to win the upcoming election. I suspect he wants to become leader of the country at any expense despite his party's bitter defeat last time when it would be wiser of him to sit this one out for the good of all. I certainly can not vote for the FNM with Tommy Turnquest at the helm unless or until he provides the people with a believable explanation and apology about the air condition fiasco at Ministry of Tourism. It would also help the FNM cause if they would provide us with an honest explanation about their leadership race fiasco leading up to last years's general election.
I gather from listening to the minions within the FNM party that its probably going to be business as usual when they return to power. Too bad for the bahamas because we could truly become the one of more outstanding countries in the world with the proper leadership.

FNM brothers and sisters
the fnm haahaha
i don't know what everybody is up in arms about. compare the first year of the fnm and the plp. the fnm did a far superior job by far. tommy tunquest was never given a chance to prove himself as leader. perry chiristie was and he has failed. yes i would vote fnm today. the only thing i see our prime minister doing right now is appearing in every picture in any church he can find but i am not fooled. i know better. i look at the records of both these parties and see that the fnm ran the country in a much superior manner despite the talk.
everyone makes mistakes,it's the fool that doesn't learn from them
I would vote FNM right now today if the chance was presented!! Why? Because we are in and headed further toward some real topsy turvy economic times. And in such a climate we need our 'best minds' and 'best managers' at the helm. And this I definitely DO NOT see exhibited in the PLP. Come on, when we have MPs like Leslie Miller (Trade & Industry) spewing off at the mouth that "we een necessarily joining/jerning no FTAA..., etc. etc." and demonstrating little 'economic' sense or global awareness or Bradley Roberts who seems barely able to even read, etc. etc. etc. I could go on.... this is a rather scary bunch to have captaining the ship right now.
In fact I thought this business of POLITICIANS hoggin' up T/V & the news was a thing of the past? Somehow I have a feelin' that een one single Bahamian fooled by this yakity yakity yaking... media media media "let's appear to be doing stuff" style of government----I know I ain't?
And by the way... as for Tommy Turnquest as leader -- I'd encourage all of us to give him a chance. Do u think he brings less to the table than Perry?
Further, can anyone really support the 'corruption' charges or are we allowing ourselves to be sucked in by political craftymen? ... u know? the grapevine --- did anyone listen carefully to Tennyson Wells who prob. lobbied the most believable corruption charge after the election on the talk show? If u listened to him carefully, u would have heard him 'very, very, very soft' on his original charge against Tommy. We need to really wake up in this country and be more independent thinkers .... separate rumour & accusations from facts! What if someone decided to start a corruption charge against u???? what then? I've had it happen to me...totally without any truth. In fact I have heard more stories about 'corrupt' actions of Tennyson Wells than any other person I know --- but, I can't decided based on that~~~I don't know them to be true??? Makes sense?
As for the FNM, no way would I ever vote for them again. These guys only knew you when they wanted to get in power after that it was all about them. Now concerning The PLP GOVERNMENT I love them. These guys are not the best but they are giving there all and doing there best to clean up all the mess the fnm left behind.
May God Continue To Bless The Bahamas.
nobody wants tommy t he is politicaly not ready .i am politicaly open minded an i might give them a chance but not eith tommy as cheif.what choice u have the PLP an FNM is 6 an half a dozen
I belive that if given a chance to do it all over most Bahamians would vote for the FNM. The PLP has demonstrated that they can not govern. To say that they are "all talk but no action" would be an understatement. Perry Christie is a do nothing ceremonial Prime Minister, he is more suited to be a Governor General.
FNM proved fatal to this economy. They were interested in themselves firstly, their friends and families secondly, the opportunists thirdly, and the expatriates fourthly at the expense of many qualified Bahamians. Qualified and experienced Bahamians suffered at the hands of the FNM Government with Mr. Hubiggety at the helm and little Tommy Tucker at his pants legs.
I am also disappointed with the PLP over the same issue. They seem helpless and unconcerned and reactive rather than pro-active. However, I would rather vote for a humanitarian Perry Christie than a behind the scenes Hubiggety with little Tommy Tucker at his heels.
It is time we stop electing lawyers and family names and opportunists and elect visionaries, business men and women and people who really care about the poor man in this country
