    Bahamas Public Schools In Crisis

The head of the Coalition for Education Reform J. Barrie Farrington said the national average exclusively for public schools in the 2007 Bahamas General Certificate of Secondary Education [BGCSE] examination is actually an 'E' when measured on a 4.0 system.

Ma peeps here on BI! I am trained in statistics and research and that dude een know what the hell he talkin bout!

I think if they ger carry out research into the state of the educational system in this counrty, I suggest that they find someone who is trained and able to speak sense to these matters...rather than talkin crap all over the place! At least he should know something about Standard Normal Distribution if he ger talk about it! Man you could have a 20 point scale under the CURVE, the mean still remains at the 0 regression point!

That dude simple don't understand the statistical concept of the CURVE! If he did, he would not be saying what he said! For example, the Curve is segmented into discrete but equal components where no matter the measurement method used, the numerical equivalents remain the same. I know some of you may have heard about CURVE measurements such as Standard Deviations, Cumulative Percentage, Percentile Equivalents, Typical Standard Scores (Z, T, CEEB and AGCT), Stanines, Wechsler Scales and Deviation Quartiles etc.

I could go on and on with this beast call the normal CURVE...but nuff fer nah!

very good point, licks. i am NOT trained in statistics, having only taken a single course in college, but this guy is completely misrepresenting the concept of a curve ... which makes my cynical side wonder who put this gentleman up to making such a ignorant statement. never mind why any editor in their right mind would reprint such ramblings.

    hmmmmmm.

6 sheets of plywood $107 dollars...
sealing up all your windows in anticipation of the big storm, a good idea...
watching your neighbors 'bun' up, because the house hot and they don't have aircondition, priceless.
